How to Dispose of an Artificial Christmas Tree in the DFW Metroplex 2025-2026

Artificial trees make a great holiday choice if you want to reuse a tree year after year, but when your artificial tree is no longer serving you then disposal can be tricky. Artificial trees typically cannot be mulched or recycled like live Christmas trees. When your artificial tree has served its final use in your home or business, here are some ways you can dispose of it.

  • Donate Artificial Tree to Charity: Trees that are still in usable condition should be donated to local charities. Project Elf Dallas, The Center for Transforming Lives Resale Shop, and Genesis Shelter's Benefit Thrift Store are all charities local to the DFW Metroplex that accept holiday decor items. You can also list your tree on your local Buy Nothing group or on Freecycle.

  • Sell Your Artificial Tree: Artificial trees in great condition might be able to get you a few dollars back after the holidays. Set a reasonable price for your artificial Christmas tree and list the item online on a site like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, NextDoor, or OfferUp.

  • Salvage Your Artificial Tree Parts for Crafts: Artificial trees that are not in usable condition might still make great crafting material. Use tree branches to create fun Christmas crafts like wreaths, garlands, or mini-Christmas trees.

  • Put Your Artificial Tree Out For Bulk Trash Pickup: Artificial trees in poor condition are candidates for disposal. Check your Dallas-area bulk waste pickup rules for how and when to put your artificial tree out on the curb. Be advised that the majority of bulk waste pickup in Dallas will be taken to the landfill.

  • Call Junk.com to Get Your Artificial Tree: Remove all the decorations you want to keep from your artificial Christmas tree and then just show Junk.com where your tree is and we'll haul it off for you. If any materials on your artificial tree can be recycled, such as scrap metal, then we will salvage those materials before responsibly disposing of the remaining garbage.
